Anyway

by Camilla Jean Welsch

Anyway,

then the neighbors came.

And they were suffering

from the kind of boredom

that comes with sadness

and illness of body and mind.

They came in a red car,

and they were cursing,

and coughing,

and the dog began to bark,

and the car alarm went off.

Nonetheless,

I wished I’d turned from my spot

on the porch

to give them a proper hello.
