Debussy’s Clair de Lune at 3 AM

by Camilla Jean Welsch

Austere and lifeless,

cool, cold,

and dry.

Water is just music,

welling, trickling down

with fluid melody and a shadowing harmony,

drifting, dribbling down,

completely dry,

coming from the fingers of a faceless man

playing atop the moon,

sitting in a crisp white tux,

at the keys of a grand piano.
