White Ship

by Camilla Jean Welsch

I am a white ship
pushing forward
with only fine, brown lines
to distinguish it
from the white ocean
and white sky.

And why is this image on my mind?
As if I were sailing
across the pureness of the sun,
or a blank, textured page
made for the medium
of watercolor?

But, because it is my soul,
and I am a vessel.
And because God, sometimes, speaks in symbols.

The ship obliterates
to nothing in its wake….
For that is God’s, and God’s alone.
