Use Your Star

by Camilla Jean Welsch

There’s Mary.

She is tossing me a star,

which I catch into my eyes

when I pray to her.

Her own orbs

she must gracefully cast down,

lest celestial light

overwhelm my being,

because I see in them

the circular rotation

of tiny atomic stars

twinkling in the darkness of night —

sparks,

until the singular sun comes again,

and descends on the shroud of a cloud,

like a dove

above the water

(when the sky is orange and pink and purple, to name a few)

and floats upon the tide, for a while,

weightless,

till the light has overcome…

till light and sound are one

(till light and sound are won).
